How Daikin Split System and Ducted Error Codes Read
Daikin gives each fault a two-character code (U4, A6, EA). On a split system with a wireless remote, the indoor unit’s OPERATION lamp blinks when there is a fault, and the remote’s fault diagnosis finds the code. On a Sky Air ducted or cassette unit, the wired controller shows the code, and a wireless controller finds it in inspection mode.
The two lists share many codes, and the wording can differ between them: C4 is the indoor heat exchanger thermistor on a split system and the liquid pipe thermistor for the heat exchanger on Sky Air. The System column in the list below tells you which is which.
This guide covers Daikin split systems, from Daikin Australia’s operation manuals for the Zena (FTXJ) and XL Series (FTXM, FTXV) ranges, and Daikin Sky Air ducted, cassette and other light commercial units, from Daikin Europe’s Sky Air service manual ESIE17-08. Other models can show codes not listed here: check the unit’s own manual. Daikin VRV uses its own list: see the Daikin VRV fault code guide.

Reading the Code on Each Controller
Split systems: fault diagnosis on the remote
When the indoor unit’s OPERATION lamp keeps blinking, read the code with the wireless remote:
- Hold Cancel for about 5 seconds. 00 blinks in the temperature display.
- Press Cancel repeatedly until the unit gives a long, continuous beep. The code on the display is the fault code.
- A short beep, or two short beeps, means the code on the display is not the stored one: keep pressing.
- To finish, hold Cancel for about 5 seconds. The code display also clears after 1 minute with no button pressed.
Daikin’s manuals ask that the problem is understood and fixed before the code is reset, by a licensed installer or your local dealer.
Sky Air: wired controller (BRC1E)
When a fault stops the system, the controller’s green operation lamp blinks and “Error: Press Menu button” blinks at the bottom of the screen. A warning keeps the system running, with the lamp on and “Warning: Press Menu button”. Press Menu, as the message asks, to bring up the code. The troubleshooting section of Daikin’s service manual lists the Sky Air codes with a two-digit sub-code (A3-00), shown in the last column of the list below.
To see earlier codes, hold Cancel for 4 seconds or more on the basic screen to open Service Settings, then choose Error History. RC Error History lists the last 10 codes with the unit number, date and time; Indoor Unit Error History lists the last 5 for each indoor unit.
Sky Air: wireless controller
If the unit stops on a fault, the indoor unit’s operation LED flashes. The wireless controller (BRC7 series) finds the code in inspection mode:
- Press INSPECTION/TEST. “Unit” shows and the unit number flashes 0.
- Press UP or DOWN to step through the unit numbers until the indoor unit beeps. A continuous beep at this step means no fault on that unit.
- Press MODE. The left (upper) digit of the code flashes. Press UP or DOWN until the unit gives two short beeps (upper digit matched) or a continuous beep (whole code matched).
- Press MODE again. The right (lower) digit flashes. Press UP or DOWN until the continuous beep. The code on the display is the fault code.
Pressing MODE again, or leaving the controller for 1 minute, returns it to normal.
Know about U4 before the call comes in.
An FCU Gateway at the unit’s own control terminals connects it to a NexusLite, Zonelite-Link, ZoneNexus or Nexus. Its fault codes then show in the free AirNexus app, and the app sends a push notification when a unit reports a fault.
Daikin Split System and Sky Air Error Code List
Search by code or keyword, or type Split or Sky Air to see one list. The split system codes are from the Zena FTXJ-T2 manual, the newest and longest of the three Australian lists; the Sky Air codes are from the ESIE17-08 service manual, with its two-digit sub-code. J1 and L4 come from the same manual’s table of codes read on the outdoor unit circuit board LEDs, which gives no sub-code.

Run Daikin Splits and Ducted on AirNexus
AirNexus supplies the controls and your HVAC contractor installs them. One app covers every connected unit on the site.
Running Daikin VRV on the same site? A Nexus 8, 16 or 32 runs it on the central control line: see VRF control. Not sure which fits? Use the Project Finder. AirNexus supplies Australia and New Zealand; distributors and project teams elsewhere can register as a partner.

Daikin fault codes: frequently asked questions
How do I check the error code on a Daikin split system remote?
Hold Cancel for about 5 seconds until 00 blinks in the temperature display, then press Cancel repeatedly until the unit gives a long, continuous beep. The code on the display is the fault code. Hold Cancel for 5 seconds to finish. Search the code list.
What does U4 mean on a Daikin?
On a Daikin split system, U4 is a signal transmission error between the indoor and outdoor unit. On Sky Air, U4 (U4-00 in Daikin’s service manual) is a transmission abnormality between the indoor unit and outdoor unit. See U4 in the list.
What does A3 mean on a Daikin ducted system?
On Daikin Sky Air ducted and cassette units, A3 (A3-00 in Daikin’s service manual) is a drain water level system abnormality. See A3 in the list.
Are Daikin VRV error codes the same as split system codes?
Many letters match, but VRV has its own list. Daikin VRV III and VRV IV codes are in the Daikin VRV fault code guide.
Can I see Daikin fault codes in an app?
Yes. An FCU Gateway wired at the unit’s own control terminals connects one Daikin air conditioner to a NexusLite, Zonelite-Link, ZoneNexus or Nexus. On/off, mode, fan, setpoint, room temperature and fault codes then show in the free AirNexus app, and the app sends a push notification when a unit reports a fault. Daikin is one of the FCU Gateway’s 15 brands, and we confirm compatibility for each unit at quote stage. See the FCU Gateway.
